Ephesians 4 Do you believe, gibberish or the Word of God?

7But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

8Therefore it says,
            “WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH,
HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES,
AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.”

9(Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)

Every Friday when my father was in assisted living I would take him dinner. We would discuss life, the Bible and things in general. When my father was near the end of his life he expressed to me he was worried he would have to spend three days in hell as Jesus did. He was Catholic and because of the Creeds Prayer he became worrisome about hell.

So we had a bible study about it. We examined scripture and discussed it.

We see here in Ephesians that he descended into the lower parts of the earth. Christ did that because He fulfilled the Law, and the saints (believers) were waiting for the savior.

There is Hell (Lake of fire) for the unbelievers and Sheol (Waiting place for believers).

With Abraham in Luke 16:19-31 we learn there is a big divide (a great chasm) between Hell and Sheol (waiting place for believers).

I explained to my father that Jesus went to Sheol to take believers to heaven and since he believed that Jesus suffered and died for his sins on the cross and resurrected from the dead on the third day he would go straight to heaven.
My father was relieved that he wouldn't have to spend time in hell before going to heaven.

The Bible has the answers to life and death on earth, spiritual life and spiritual death.
When we believe in Jesus and His death on the cross for our sins we become a temple of God. The Holy Spirit enters us. It's the Holy Spirit that helps us understand the Bible.

To unbelievers the Bible is gibberish, to believers it's the Word of God written by men with guidance from the Holy Spirit.

What do you believe, gibberish or the Word of God?

Blessings, David
