1John 4 NKJV Knowing God Through Love 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Can you imagine loving someone so much you're willingly sacrifice your life for them? What if you knew it wasn't going to be a quick easy death? Would you give your life for a loved one knowing you were going to be slowly tortured for hours before sweet death took away your suffering? Can anyone phantom that level of love? Thankfully we will probably never have to make that choice for the ones we love. Jesus did. He knew what was coming. He knew the pain He would endure. He knew the torture He would suffer. He knew He could have stopped it from happening any time He wanted because He was God. But He didn't stop it. He took every whip, He took the humiliation, He allowed it to happen. Jesus endured hours of torture because He loves you that much. How could we not love Him back? Yet, that's not what God wants in return for His sacrifice. He wants us to love others that much. So we go back to the question: Can you imagine loving someone so much you willingly sacrifice your life for them? Blessings, Cecilia |
