Deuteronomy 11:2-7 His Love and Discipline

2Know this day that it is not your children who have known and seen the discipline of the LORD your God: His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm; 3the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land; 4what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day; 5what He did for you in the wilderness until you reached this place; 6and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.

7For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.

His love and discipline

Love always has discipline attached to it. What parent who loves their child lets them go undisciplined?

The Lord is no different. He gets our attention through discipline and accepts repentance unless you totally reject Him like Dathan did.

Don’t be like Dathan, if you disobeyed Him return on your knees and confess your sin and ask for forgiveness.

John 14: 15If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Do you love ❤️ Him?

Deuteronomy 11:1 Love

1You shall therefore love the LORD your God and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.

Love ❤️

The Lord wants our love and the verse is clear, “therefore love the LORD your God”.

Look what he says about the church in Ephesus,

Revelation 2: 4But I have this against you: You have abandoned your first love.

Have you loved the Lord with all your heart ❤️?

Or have you abandoned your first love?

Deuteronomy 10:20-22 He is your praise!

20You are to fear the LORD your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name. 21He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome wonders that your eyes have seen. 22Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

He is your praise!

Psalm 99: 3Let them praise Your great and awesome name— He is holy!

Romans 15:9 so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”

Psalm 106:1 Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

See a theme here? Praise the Lord daily for your blessings! You don’t want Him to think you are ungrateful do you?

Deuteronomy 10:17-19 Character of God

17For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe. 18He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing. 19So you also must love the foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

Character of God demonstrates He is God of gods, Lord of lords, great, mighty, awesome, showing no partially and accepting no bribe!

He executes justice for the fatherless and widow.

He loves the foreigner, giving him food and water.

When we become followers of Jesus Christ, He circumcises our heart ❤️ and slowly gives us a heart like His and we begin to have some of His character traits and walk by the Spirit.

Galatians 5: 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control.

Can people see Christ in you?

Deuteronomy 10:16-17 Stiff-Necked

16Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more.

Leviticus 26: 41and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make amends for their iniquity,

Jeremiah 4:4 4Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts,

We can also have the same problems, stiffed necks and uncircumcised hearts when we resist the Holy Spirit!

Are you resisting the Holy Spirit?

Deuteronomy 10:14-15 He has chosen you!

14Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it. 15Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day.

He has chosen you

“God requires this conduct from His people because they are His special possession. Though heaven and earth belong to God, He set His focus and attention on Israel beginning with their fathers.

Being chosen - having the special attention of God focused upon you - is a place of great privilege, but also a place of great responsibility. Israel had a special responsibility to obedience. (Guzik)

He has chosen you, don’t let that slip by!

Ephesians 1:5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

When we study scriptures and chew on them, we also need to look for Jesus in them.

He has chosen you, not only refers to the Israelites but to you too because God adopted you through his Son, Jesus.

Remember, it gave Him great pleasure to chose you!

Hosea 10:12 It is Time!

 April 1 PM
"It is time to seek the Lord."-Hosea 10:12
This month of April is said to derive its name from the Latin verb aperio, which signifies to open, because all the buds and blossoms are now opening, and we have arrived at the gates of the flowery year. Reader, if you are yet unsaved, may your heart, in accord with the universal awakening of nature, be opened to receive the Lord. Every blossoming flower warns you that it is time to seek the Lord; be not out of tune with nature, but let your heart bud and bloom with holy desires. Do you tell me that the warm blood of youth leaps in your veins? then, I entreat you, give your vigour to the Lord. It was my unspeakable happiness to be called in early youth, and I could fain praise the Lord every day for it. Salvation is priceless, let it come when it may, but oh! an early salvation has a double value in it. Young men and maidens, since you may perish ere you reach your prime, "It is time to seek the Lord." Ye who feel the first signs of decay, quicken your pace: that hollow cough, that hectic flush, are warnings which you must not trifle with; with you it is indeed time to seek the Lord. Did I observe a little grey mingled with your once luxurious tresses? Years are stealing on apace, and death is drawing nearer by hasty marches, let each return of spring arouse you to set your house in order. Dear reader, if you are now advanced in life, let me entreat and implore you to delay no longer. There is a day of grace for you now-be thankful for that, but it is a limited season and grows shorter every time that clock ticks. Here in this silent chamber, on this first night of another month, I speak to you as best I can by paper and ink, and from my inmost soul, as God's servant, I lay before you this warning, "It is time to seek the Lord." Slight not that work, it may be your last call from destruction, the final syllable from the lip of grace. (C H Spurgeon)

Hopefully you enjoyed this as much as I did, blessings.
