Leviticus 9:17-21 Sacrifices and the Bible!

17 He also brought the grain offering, took a handful of it and burned it on the altar in addition to the morning’s burnt offering.
18 He slaughtered the ox and the ram as the fellowship offering for the people. His sons handed him the blood, and he splashed it against the sides of the altar. 19 But the fat portions of the ox and the ram—the fat tail, the layer of fat, the kidneys and the long lobe of the liver— 20 these they laid on the breasts, and then Aaron burned the fat on the altar. 21 Aaron waved the breasts and the right thigh before the Lord as a wave offering, as Moses commanded.

“Aaron, like every priest among God’s people, must receive God’s atoning sacrifice first. It was only then that he could properly bring the people’s offering.” (Guzik)

I was watching Turning Points this morning with David Jeremiah and he explained that a preacher had an interview with a CNN reporter. The reporter asked, when is the Bible going to get with the 21st century?
He knew right then that the reporter never read the Bible.

The Lord speaks to us through the Bible.
A new reader of the Bible might think the sacrifices in these verses are ancient and not with the 21st century. But as they study it they will realize that these verses are a prelude to Jesus who shed His blood as the final sacrifice for our salvation.

I know someone who tells a story about their bible that was lost because he set it on the roof of his car. As he was driving home during a rainstorm the Bible fell of the roof in a curve of the road and landed on the shoulder. A woman found it, took it home and started reading his notes he had written within the pages. She found his Romans Road to Salvation notes and received Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Eventually her whole family came to Christ. She returned the Bible to its owner and told him this story about his lost Bible.
The question is, was it really lost?

Do you think the Bible is not with the 21st century?

Leviticus 9:12-16 Our Sin Offering!

12Then Aaron slaughtered the burnt offering. His sons brought him the blood, and he sprinkled it on all sides of the altar. 13They brought him the burnt offering piece by piece, including the head, and he burned them on the altar. 14He washed the entrails and the legs and burned them atop the burnt offering on the altar.
15Aaron then presented the people’s offering. He took the male goat for the people’s sin offering, slaughtered it, and offered it for sin like the first one.
16He presented the burnt offering and offered it according to the ordinance.

Can you imagine all the blood ðŸ©¸ ?
Now imagine the blood that Jesus Christ spilled for you (me) by willingly going to the cross as the perfect Lamb sacrifice for our sin offering.
Jesus our sin offering, was foretold in scripture before it actually happened.

Isaiah 53
The Suffering Servant

1Who has believed our message?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?a
2He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no stately form or majesty to attract us,
no beauty that we should desire Him.
3He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.
Like one from whom men hide their faces,
He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
4Surely He took on our infirmities
and carried our sorrows;b
yet we considered Him stricken by God,
struck down and afflicted.
5But He was pierced for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him,
and by His stripes we are healed.c
6We all like sheep have gone astray,d
each one has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid upon Him
the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet He did not open His mouth.
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so He did not open His mouth.
8By oppression and judgment He was taken away,
and who can recount His descendants?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;e
He was stricken for the transgression of My people.

A Grave Assigned
9He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with a rich man in His death,
although He had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in His mouth.f
10Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush Him
and to cause Him to suffer;
and when His soul is made a guilt offering,g
He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days,
and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
11After the anguish of His soul,
He will see the light of lifeh and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant will justify many,
and He will bear their iniquities.
12Therefore I will allot Him a portion with the great,i
and He will divide the spoils with the strong,j
because He has poured out His life unto death,
and He was numbered with the transgressors.k
Yet He bore the sin of many
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Can you envision Jesus in that scripture?

Leviticus 9:8-11 I am a Sinner!

8So Aaron approached the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself. 9The sons of Aaron brought the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood and applied it to the horns of the altar. And he poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 10On the altar he burned the fat, the kidneys, and the lobe of the liver from the sin offering, as the LORD had commanded Moses. 11But he burned up the flesh and the hide outside the camp.

Aaron says to the people by slaughtering the calf as a sin offering, I am a sinner too.
Think of this offering as a prelude to Christ.

He sacrificed Himself for you (us).

Leviticus 9:5-7 Only a man!

5So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of the Tent of Meeting, and the whole congregation drew near and stood before the LORD. 6And Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded you to do, so that the glory of the LORD may appear to you.”
7Then Moses said to Aaron, “Approach the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering to make atonement for yourself and for the people. And sacrifice the people’s offering to make atonement for them, as the LORD has commanded.”

If you read this scripture and understood it completely you see Aaron had to make atonement for his sin also because he is “only a man”.
Just because he is a priest, pastor, preacher or leader doesn’t mean he isn’t human and without sin. He is “only a man”.

We see how Peter reacted when Cornelius tried to worship him.
Acts 10: 25As Peter was about to enter, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet to worship him. 26But Peter helped him up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”

We can hold our leaders in high regard and be respectful to them but remember they are “only a man”.

Everyone is a sinner and he who claims they don’t just sinned because he just lied! Remember he is “only a man”.

Are you without sin?

Leviticus 9:1-4 For Today!

1On the eighth day Moses summoned Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. 2He said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without blemish, and present them before the LORD. 3Then speak to the Israelites and say, ‘Take a male goat for a sin offering, a calf and a lamb—both a year old and without blemish—for a burnt offering, 4an ox and a ram for a peace offering to sacrifice before the LORD, and a grain offering mixed with oil. For today the LORD will appear to you.’”

The ceremony of consecration lasted seven days but there was still more work to do.
They need to deal with sin, theirs and the people of Israel.

“For today the LORD will appear to you”.
If you knew the day you would meet the Lord, how would you prepare?
Be ready!

Readiness at any hour.
Matthew 24: 36No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 7As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.

I encourage you to read Matthew 24 and to be ready, for today.......

Leviticus 8:33-36 In the Presence of the Lord!

33You must not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are complete; for it will take seven days to ordain you. 34What has been done today has been commanded by the LORD in order to make atonement on your behalf. 35You must remain at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting day and night for seven days and keep the LORD’s charge so that you will not die, for this is what I have been commanded.”
36So Aaron and his sons did everything the LORD had commanded through Moses.

Seven days of ordination in the presence of the Lord!

Psalms 84: How lovely is Your dwelling place,
O LORD of Hosts!
2My soul longs, even faints,
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.

I am no longer of this earth, it is not my home because since receiving the free gift of salvation and understanding the word of the Lord my soul longs, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh cry out for the living God!

The older I become, the more my aches and pains increase.
I cannot wait for that day, the day I will be with the Lord! I hold on to His promise!
I look forward to the day I will go home!

Do you?

Leviticus 8:31-32 Feeding and Sustaining!

31And Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’ 32Then you must burn up the remainder of the meat and bread.

“Let not this distinction be forgotten; the eating of the sacrifice is not intended to give life, for no dead man can eat, but to sustain the life which is there already. A believing look at Christ makes you live, but spiritual life must be fed and sustained.” (Spurgeon)

I have to feed and sustain my spiritual life when I wake up in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, by reading the Bible and doing my devotional. If I don’t, I usually fail to do it and Satan slowly gets a grip on me one thought at a time and I will revert back to the sinner I once was before Christ touched my heart ❤️.

That’s my reason for doing these devotionals, they keep my spiritual life fed with meat and bread from the Lord. They allow me to put on the armor of God!
Thank you for allowing me to send you these devotionals, without you I wouldn’t stay fed spiritually!

As the world crumbles and panics around us, feed yourself on the word of God. Remember, the Bible predicts what will happen and God wins over evil ðŸ‘¿.

How do you feed and sustain your spiritual life?

Blessings, David

Leviticus 8:30 Oil of the Holy Spirit!

30Next, Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, as well as Aaron’s sons and their garments.

“Yes, brethren, we need to know that double anointing, the blood of Jesus which cleanses, and the oil of the Holy Spirit which perfumes us. It is well to see how these two blend in one… It is a terrible blunder to set the blood and the oil in opposition, they must always go together.” (Spurgeon)

When I read this quote from Spurgeon it reminded me of a Randy Travis song,
Pray for the Fish. It’s about a well known sinner in a small town and the people are betting he won’t change after he comes to Christ and is baptized.

But this is how mercy and grace works! Jesus takes away all your sins great or small and all sin is dirty to the Lord.
Satan tries to convince us that we’ve gone too far and the Lord won’t forgive us.
But Jesus’s love for you is greater than Satans whispers!
Never forget, He went to the cross for you!

Matthew 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him.

After you accepted and received His mercy and grace, were you baptized?

Leviticus 8:25-29 The Wave Offering!

25And Moses took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with their fat—as well as the right thigh. 26And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD, he took one cake of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, and he placed them on the fat portions and on the right thigh. 27He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and waved them before the LORD as a wave offering.
28Then Moses took these from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD. 29He also took the breast—Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination—and waved it before the LORD as a wave offering, as the LORD had commanded him.

Wave offering, presenting them before the Lord displaying complete devotion.

The burnt offering, “a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD”.
Think of the best barbecue you’ve ever had. Everyone’s style is different, spices, meats, type of wood and length of time, temperature and sauces! One day Jesus may prepare a heavenly meal for us, like He did for the disciples! I suspect it was the best meal they ever ate and they had memory of it the rest of their lives! Fish and bread cooked over fire ðŸ”¥

Our senses will be overwhelmed  when we witness the things Jesus Christ is preparing for us in heaven. I can’t wait and look forward to that day!

Can you?

Leviticus 8:22-24 Earlobe-Hear, Thumb-Work, Toe-Walk!

22After that, Moses presented the other ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 23Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 24Moses also presented Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood on their right earlobes, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he sprinkled the blood on all sides of the altar.

Why the right earlobe, thumb and toe?
90 percent of the world’s population is right handed. The dominant side is considered stronger, superior. This could be the reason.

“They should hear differently because the blood was on their ear. They should work differently because the blood was on their thumb. They should walk differently because the blood was on their toe.” (Guzik)

The born again Christian should hear differently because we should be listening with the love of Christ. We should work differently because in everything we do it should be done as if we are doing it for Christ. We should walk differently because we are set apart from others in this world.
If we do all these things the world will know we are His!

Do you listen, work and walk differently?

Leviticus 8:18-21 Confessing Sin!

18Then Moses presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 19Moses slaughtered the ram and sprinkled the blood on all sides of the altar. 20He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat. 21He washed the entrails and legs with water and burned the entire ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

The priests laid their hands on its head and confessed their sin.
The priests were totally committed to the Lord after the first three aspects of the ceremony: cleansed, anointing and atonement.
Without these three things settled first they couldn’t truly give themselves to God.

This also applies to us, but the difference is we have Jesus Christ.

We are cleansed we we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When we believe he died on the cross for our sins and that He rose from the dead.
You need to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

We are anointed with the Holy Spirit, we are marked as His!

We have atonement with His blood ðŸ©¸ sacrifice on the cross.

Some people believe they can go to heaven by being good and doing good works. But how can they cleanse their body of the sin they were born with and the sin they committed in life?

Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?
If not, it’s easy to do by praying: Jesus I’m sorry and I confess my sins to you. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose from the dead. I’m sorry for my sins and I give myself to you, in Jesus name I pray.

If you prayed this prayer, I welcome you to the family of God. You have been adopted as his child!

Blessings, David

Leviticus 8:14-17 Killing-Place!

14Moses then brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 15Moses slaughtered the bull, took some of the blood, and applied it with his finger to all four horns of the altar, purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that atonement could be made on it.
16Moses also took all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it all on the altar. 17But the bull with its hide, flesh, and dung he burned outside the camp, as the LORD had commanded him.

“The Hebrew word means more than lightly placing the hand, it gives the idea of pressing hard upon the bullock’s head. They came each one and leaned upon the victim, loading him with their burden, signifying their acceptance of its substitution, their joy that the Lord would accept that victim in their stead. When they put their hands on the bullock, they made a confession of sin.” (Spurgeon)

Alter, ancient Hebrew word translates killing-place.
The new covenant alter, killing-place is the cross.

Sins price (debt) is blood ðŸ©¸
What or whom paid your debt for sin?

Leviticus 8:10-13 Anointing Oil!

10Next, Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it; and so he consecrated them. 11He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them.
12He also poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him. 13Then Moses presented Aaron’s sons, put tunics on them, wrapped sashes around them, and tied headbands on them, just as the LORD had commanded him.

James 5: 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

When I was a volunteering chaplain at a veterans home with 120 rooms, our group of chaplains would (if permitted) pray over the sick and anoint them with oil. We used olive oil as the recipe in the Bible is forbidden to duplicate. I personally witnessed the Lord heal and extend the days of the sick.

Anointing the priests and kings was setting them apart for service to the Lord.

1 Samuel 16: 12So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”
13So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward.

Do you know anyone that is sick? Pray over them and anoint them with oil!

Leviticus 8:6-9 Washed, Clothed and Crowned!

6Then Moses presented Aaron and his sons and washed them with water. 7He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him. He tied the woven band of the ephod around him and fastened it to him. 8Then he put the breastpiece on him and placed the Urim and Thummima in the breastpiece. 9Moses also put the turban on Aaron’s head and set the gold plate, the holy diadem, on the front of the turban, as the LORD had commanded him.

Washed!
1 Corinthians 6: 9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Clothed!
Isaiah 61: 10I will rejoice greatly in the LORD,
my soul will exult in my God;
for He has clothed me with garments of salvation
and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom wears a priestly headdress,
as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Crowned!
The 5 Crowns that Jesus will hand out to believer’s include; the Crown of Life (James 1:12), the Crown of Righteousness (2Timothy 4:8), the Incorruptible Crown (1Corinthians 9:25), the Crown of Glory (1 Pet 5:4), and the Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 2:19).

Will you earn a crown?

Leviticus 8:1-3 Consecration!

Moses Consecrates Aaron and His Sons

1Then the LORD said to Moses, 2“Take Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread, 3and assemble the whole congregation at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.”

You are consecrated when you come to Christ!
1 Peter 2: 4As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight, 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6For it stands in Scripture:
“See, I lay in Zion a stone,
a chosen and precious cornerstone;
and the one who believes in Him
will never be put to shame.”
7To you who believe, then, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,
“The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”
8and,
“A stone of stumbling
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word—and to this they were appointed.
9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for Gods own possession!

What are you waiting for?
Proclaim the virtues of Him!

Blessings, David

Leviticus 7:28-38 Offerings, Sacrifices and Choices!

28Then the LORD said to Moses, 29“Speak to the Israelites and say, ‘Anyone who presents a peace offering to the LORD must bring it as his sacrifice to the LORD. 30With his own hands he is to bring the offerings made by fire to the LORD; he shall bring the fat, together with the breast, and wave the breast as a wave offering before the LORD.
31The priest is to burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons. 32And you are to give the right thigh to the priest as a contribution from your peace offering. 33The son of Aaron who presents the blood and fat of the peace offering shall have the right thigh as a portion.
34I have taken from the sons of Israel the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons as a permanent portion from the sons of Israel.’”
35This is the portion of the offerings made by fire to the LORD for Aaron and his sons since the day they were presented to serve the LORD as priests. 36On the day they were anointed, the LORD commanded that this be given them by the sons of Israel. It is a permanent portion for the generations to come.
37This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering, and the peace offering, 38which the LORD gave Moses on Mount Sinai on the day He commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the LORD in the Wilderness of Sinai.

Jesus Christ fulfilled every sacrifice, for
“He is the Burnt-offering, the Meat-offering, the Peace-offering, the Sin-offering, and the Trespass-offering for His people. By His one oblation of Himself once offered, He has stood in all these different relations.” (Jukes)

The way I see it is we have several choices.
We can say to ourselves, there is no God.
We can attempt to follow the Levitical laws and fall short (fail).
We can follow a god of our own choosing.
With all the previous choices we will suffer the consequences when we meet Him face to face.
Or we can accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and rest in His promises!

Which choice have you made?

Blessings, David

Leviticus 7:22-27 You are not!

22Then the LORD said to Moses, 23“Speak to the Israelites and say, ‘You are not to eat any of the fat of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. 24The fat of an animal found dead or mauled by wild beasts may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it.
25If anyone eats the fat of an animal from which an offering by fire may be presented to the LORD, the one who eats it must be cut off from his people. 26You must not eat the blood of any bird or animal in any of your dwellings. 27If anyone eats blood, that person must be cut off from his people.’”

Years ago our family knew a couple who were polish and they owned a resort on a lake that consisted of a store and rental cabins. He would ask us on occasion, to pick him up some polish blood sausage from downstate when we drove up north to our cabin. It wasn’t readily available.
I never tried it.
They used to be a cuisine show on a food network about a fellow that traveled around the world eating the most shocking meals he could find.
I couldn’t watch it!

The fat speaking of (good and abundance) and the blood (speaking of life) belonged to God and had to be given to Him. (Guzik)

Blessings, David
